Opatija The Riveria of the South

Opatija justly deserves the name of the Rivera of the South.
There are various townships or municipalities built along this most beautiful coastline. Rising from the sea are the steepish hills which the houses are built on, nestled amongst the trees and the fruit trees. All houses and villas are complete with steps and stairs leading to the sea. My kind of paradise. The rich and famous (both richer and more famous than me) have been coming here for over 100 years as the area is well received as a health spa. Climatically the temperatures are even and not too severe, although 34 degrees yesterday was getting a tad warm. The sun of course shines most of the time, and the sea temperature gets up to a respectable 26 degrees so I read. There are hikes in yet another National Park all with in walking distance, with waterfalls and beautiful land formations. Within the towns there  are parks  and  along the whole sea front stretching for 10 kms is the lungo Mare, a walkway. Life as you would expect from a practically perfect spot is all here.

We are staying on the bottom level of a villa, overlooking the sea, and the general area stretching over to Riejkia and the Dalmation Coast. The sea is about 2 minutes walk down about 200 steps, 6 minutes coming up! The water as clear  and as calm as anything I have known. Definitely not 26 degrees through. The bay is sprinkled with yachts and pleasure craft all meandering around. Picture postcard perfect.
