Lake Bled

Approximately 45 minutes to the NW of Ljubljana close to the Austrian border is the resort town of Bled. Built around a lake is the splendid township definitely catering for tourists in the summer and the ski season in the winter. The lake has a circumference of 6 kms  with a splendid monastery built on an island over looked by a castle built on the rock face towering above the lake. The photographer in me couldn't resist the evening shot of the setting sun over the castle.

There is a walking cycling path way around the perimeter of the lake which is definitely well used during the day and by people out strolling in an evening. This is a beautiful place. Tall aspen type trees growing down to the lake side, a crystal clear lake, under the eves of the magnificent Julian Alps, the border with Austria. 

While it has a resort feel similar to Hanmer, the pace of life is really laid back. We are staying in a small B & B which is very pleasant and within easy walking distance to the lake. Like Hanmer  there are literally hundreds of small time apartments, small B & B's and rooms ( sobes ) all offering accommodation not to mention at least 10 big name hotels on the lake frontage. Even Tito once had a house here! People relax, take coffee and walk. What a better place to stay? Bled is well known for a particular pastry that resembles a custard square with a mock cream  and custard filling. When in Rome, oops I mean Bled, one definitely feels obliged to partake in such culinary delights.The weather is warm, around the 28 - 30 mark and I am enjoying the freshness with the more temperate climate. So cafe sitting, people watching, coffee and cake. All very nice and definitely a place to enjoy!
