Integrated tasks

As this trimester draws to a close ICT and English are completing some integrated tasks. ICT is one tool that the students use to create these integrated tasks. The work samples will be used by the two faculties as assessments, each assessing different aspects according to the subject criteria. Most of my secondary ICT classes are using Comic Life to create static images and critically respond to these images. These are the Grade 9 lads embarking on storyboarding, sketching and planning their static images. Salem in the dark kandora doesn't speak a great deal of English but he's a likable rogue. See my post November 1. Even the boys do it too.
This week Ali my ICT teacher was on a particular bent because someone had uncovered the tank where the student drinking water is, leaving it open to the elements. As you would expect particularly in a boy's school, he along with the students, were speculating on what could infiltrate the tank and the hygienic water supply. Yopu don’t have to know a great deal of Arabic to get the gist of the actions. Ali demonstrated people spitting into the tank, as the males over here spit continuously on the ground, and then he demonstrated people clearing their noses in the tank. I mocked horror as you do especially for the boys. Salem thought it was so funny. His English may be really limited but he said to me many times. "Green, really" . My look of horror continued to amuse him.... and his limited but effective use of English words continued to amuse me. He definitely knew how to get his idea across. I so hope his static image reflects his creativity!
