Best of British Night at the Prom

Another week, another concert! This was the finale to the Abu Dhabi Concert season in the Emirates Place Hotel. Posh place with a fabulous auditorium. Jeff one of the Brits at my boys school organised tickets and was totally in his element. The BBC Concert Orchestra played some traditional pieces from various 20th C composers eg Steiner's Tara's theme Andrew Llyod Webber's Phantom for the opera, Elgar, My Fair lady, Cole Porter Kiss me Kate, Ben Hur etc. The second half was very much a night at the proms and all the Brits in the audience got very patriotic waved flags and sang. Lisa Vromon from USA was the soloist singer. She really made pieces come alive and was very part of the last night at the prom fun and frolicking. We sang along with Land of Hope and Glory, Rule Britannia and Auld Lang Syne, as you would expect. The evening began with the UAE Police Band playing traditional pieces, including some bagpipe numbers. Rather cool actually and very rousing. As James once used the term culture vulture and in this environment and with these opportunities that would describe me, and why not? Not a quality shot as I was struggling a bit with the camera and the flat batteries but I was there!
