Today at school we had parent workshops and afterwards there was food, typical Arab food. Having been to lunch at the boys school and lunch at the girls school the types of food are completely different.
Ladies have bowls of "spreads" and stacks of Lebonese bread. The bread is large, about the size of a dinner plate and very flat, much thinner than a pizza base. The bread is quite dry, very dry around the edges. I tend to put the edges in the bin as they are very dry and tasteless. You rip a chunk of bread off and spread over your toppings and roll everything up.
The toppings available today were Hummus, on the very left. The porridge looking spread is moutabel which is aubergine, and garlic and onion. The green Toubulah is a very fine chopped parsley. It must take ages to chop so much parsley and so fine as well. The parsley is mixed with finely chopped onion and tomato. All 3 are delicious. Of course my teachers follow this with a small cup, typical short black coffee cup of Turkish coffee. NICE.

Yum Yum! Onion at last!
Bread does mean different things and the bread at home is very much apreciated. Not as good as bach baked but Molenburg is pretty good. The Arab meal must save on the washing up I suppose as the bread becomes the plate and your fingers the knife and fork.
