The rain continues

Over the last 10 days the Muslims in UAE have been asked by the Sheikh to pray, sending special prayers asking for rain. One of my colleagues at a girl's school told me that at 12:00 noon everyday all the girls in her school stop work, bring their prayer mats down to the quadwrangle, posture and pray for rain. A special time and a special prayer. Today the prayers have been answered. 6 hours on it's still raining. Steady light rain. Large puddles have formed around the school. At break time the wee sweethearts from Grade 6 were out jumping in the puddles.... with their clean white socks. Many of the younger students are out and about with umbrellas. The older students, like older students the world over, prefer to walk around in the rain and get wet. Obviously the wet look is "in" over here too!
The cleaners are out and about with their scraper type things, swishing all the water off the steps and landings. The school has alot of marble pavers on the steps and landings etc, and in the wet they are leithal.
