Building and road works

It all began around the beginning of the month. Suddenly huge trucks and a loader came and removed the old rubbish and broken down dwelling opposite our apartment block, Next they erected a ply wood fence around the site indicating that this was now an official construction site. No tape or cones or signs needed here. Just on Christmas they dug out a foundation, about 1 met below the surface and made a whole lot of wooden squares for boxing. Judging from the size of the excavation I am guessing they intend, whoever they are, to build another apartment block, similar to the three already down our side of the "street". The street happens to be a track through the sand.
Around the time the excavation was happening a row of tiny shed like constructions appeared at the back of the property. These as you would think are not to house the tools and material, instead they are to house the site workers. The dwellings approx 3 x 3 met. Enough for a bed and a basic space to cook and wash in. The water probably comes out of a tape near by. You can see them right in the back of the pic of the foundations going down.
Last week another group of workmen dug up our track, digging down about .5 of a meter below the surface of our car ports. We of course have lost access to the car ports and places to park our cars. Entry to our apartment block is now by climbing onto this large block of concrete and in through a gate. Next door apartment block had quite a huge car park area with sun awings protecting the cars out infront of their block. On Wednesday the awnings were down and all the pavers pulled up. Their parking area obviously extended out into the new road. The helpful foremen who made a little dirt ramp so I could get my car out as they began their excavation tells us through a smattering of verably coherent English, or road will be finished by the end of January. And then to confirm he adds inshallah... God willing, which means he has no more idea than I do. So your guess as to how long this whole construction will take is as good as any ones guess.

The Kiwi bloke/blokess way would be to get out there armed with a shovel, and dig in.
Amazing if they make the "track" into a paved road, before the heavy machinery move in to build the buildings.

Heck Jocelyn what a huge change since we last saw 'the site'! They certainly dealt to the carport area next door. I bet they were rapt - not! I guess you are now all needing to park out on the road. Great to see the builder guys have made some good progress with the boxing. Please put up a future post to show on-going progress. I would love to see building UAE style!

You never know your luck - you may end up with something better than a track for a street!
