We had parent interviews at the girl's school. The process works a little different to that of other places I have been in.
Interviews are from 11-1:30pm
Miss Ibtesam speaks to the whole parent community first. Of course only the mothers attend as its a girls school
The teachers sit under the verandah at tables and the parents visit each teacher.
There are no individual interviews
Around each teacher gathers a body of parents. Each parent tries to out talk the others and hear about their daughter first. No one takes turns.
The children also stand around the tables too making some crowds quite large
The parents move to their next teacher at any time.
Crowding in on persoanl space is huge. In fact the poor teacher gets to sit on one side of the table purley for safety precautions incase she is swamped and suffocated to death by the eagerly awaitg body on the other side of the table.
At the beginning of the process the mothers bring huge mats and have a picnic on what little lawn we have, returning to the mat for sustenance between interviews.
Parent interviews are such a social time...... and survival of the fittest!!

I guess that not so long ago there were no parent interviews in NZ either. And early ones at Secondary Schools were similar to what you describe, but without the picnic. Small steps - progress.
Obviously not for the faint-hearted! It must next to pandemonium at times. Pity the poor suffering teachers.
