Every bit of land is being built on apart from the frontage. Currently the basement is being built as a space where the residents/ workers inside this building can park their bikes. The basement also houses the rubbish and the generators. Basements in buildings in Vietnam serve as another floor, all be it a useful floor. At my schools the guards and off duty workers live and sleep in the basement. Vietnamese people require so little personal space.

At least the digger is not steam powered like the one in the Mike Mulligan story and no doubt it will not dig itself into a corner of the basement and become trapped.
Where have all the mud pies gone,
Long time in wallow-ing?
Perhaps the digger could be left in the basement as an emergency generator.
