This weekend there has been a flurry of activity on the construction site below the apartments.
The
sleeping shack that was erected against the fence on the road corner has been
demolished. The boxing and reinforcing for the walls is slowly creping along that
fence line. Currently the men have their hammocks slung against the fence line
against our apartment building. As I write the men are currently eating
breakfast and talking, very much picnic style. Their voices are rather loud, drifting up into the apartments. No
wonder the residents of apartment 1B, 2B, 1 C and 2C are really fed up. These
guys are literally just through the fence. My question: where will the workers
eat and sleep when it rains, as we are currently heading into the wet season?
Yesterday
the manual fed concrete mixer was used continually to make and pour the concrete into the boxing.
Last night the concrete trucks arrived, parked on the street with the concrete
being transferred via long sluiceways from truck to boxing. There is so much
water on the site from the pile drivers, that the place really is a quagmire.
The men wade through, thigh high,. Yesterday I managed to snap the men trying
to shift some of the water, manually, pan
by pan.
The soil
from along the fence lines has been removed to reveal the concrete piles that
have been worked into place over the past 5 months. The boxing appears to be
going in on top of these concrete structures, which will help to explain the
below ground reinforcing.
Currently
at 8:30 am Sunday morning we have approx 15 “working”.

with a jack hammer on the concrete piles directly below my window

delivery truck stuck in the quagmire at the gate of the site

continuing to dig around the piles on the fence line to set up more boxing

the fence altering the angles of the huge halogen lights
And so the feverish
activity continues, on a Sunday. Health and safety and labour laws know no boundaries
here in Vietnam.

Absolutely amazing process for building a multistory building! I wonder if they count heads at the end of each shift in case one has drowned?
You must be becoming quite knowledgable about the building process. With that birds' eye-view from your apartment you will be gaining lots of know-how and becoming a bit of an expert on the construction of high rise city buildings.
A veritable quagmire. They do say mud baths are good for the skin.....
