The New Year reveals some change

On arrival back to my apartment block after the Christmas break I discover there has been a hive of activity on the street in my absence
A few of the trees on the footpath directly outside my apartment have been removed and replaced with some smaller ones that look very much like young kowhais.
There seem to be many more motorbikes parked on the footpath in the space created by the removal of the trees.
The little man who set himself up as a motorbike park in the vacant section in front of the apartment has been removed and his shelter torn down.
In his place below my apartment we have 3 larger diggers, a Vietnamese squat toilet, top right, a hive of activity and an awful lot of noise. The diggers seem to be putting in piles, although currently there seems to be an awful lot of water around as though they have hit a water main. The sync in me says they are building, quite possibly more apartments. A construction shed has been placed on the section and a lean too covered roof erected, where I suspect the workers may well reside during day light hours, to accompany the toilet of course.
Suddenly out on the street there are a greater number of portable food stalls, which is always an indication of high density population, the construction workers. The food stall operators capitalise on an opportunity to supply food to the construction staff. The phrase that springs to mind is “watch this space”, or may be the lack of it.
