As is the norm in most British Schools, the children perform a year group production based around Christmas. Today I attended my first, the Year 1 and 2 children performing When Santa Got Stuck Up the Chimney. Hats off to the music department and the Year group teachers, it was a real buzz. The enthusiasm of the children and their singing of those well known Christmas songs was a pleasure to watch and listen too. The part that really impressed was an attitude I would refer to as maximum participation. Each of the classes were dressed as a set of characters eg reindeer, Santa’s elves, pigs, bad wolves, sheep etc and had a part to play. So they had their 5 minutes under the spot lights, centre stage, singing and dancing. Each class was backed of course by the remainder of the group waiting and sitting beside the stage. There were only 4 main characters who didn't have big parts but introduced the next set of characters eg lets call up the bad wolves, they go down chimneys. The production lasted about 45 minutes, concluding with a massed item everyone on the stage, standing up, crouching down in waves. Oh yes we had that too, excited child seeing the parent and waving. Ten out of ten for enjoyment and all 200 children being involved and participating, most of the time.

Funny how chimneys, Christmas carols, very European ways, Father Christmas as designed by Coke Cola invades South East Asia. The kids look as they think it is great fun.
