Today I drove to Abu Dhabi and back. Long straight roads, 3 lanes each way, separated from sight of each other by barriers and a park like median strip. Sheik Muhammad Zayed The Second, the founding father of the Emirates was a conservationist amongst other things. He has had 150 million trees planted around the emirate. Thousands line the roads, providing a beautiful green screen from the harsh, brown reality of the desert. As you enter Al Ain there are the beautiful red sanddunes, appearing out of the greenness and towering above the tree line. For those who have seen this Australian outback, the sand has the same redness and looks perfectly sculptured. No rake marks visible. Petrol 55 AED a tank, approx $21.
