On Saturday I went for a bit of a drive around the city. The city of Al Ain is in a basin surrounded by varying hills that some times protrude right into the city. Sheik Zayed the funding father, has built some waddis that follow a very dry river bank at the bottom of these awesome hills. The hills themselves are solid rock very prominent and totally unforgiving. Absolutely nothing grows on them.Infact as you can see nothing much grows in the desert. The highest rock formation is a place called Jebel Haffet, a mountain. To me it is very similar to winding up the Hundalees in Kaikoura, although not as high. At night the road way is lit and is a beautiful specicale to look up to from the city. and the view from the top awesome also, out across the city. Fabulous at night.
