National Pride

On December 2 the UAE celebrates 38 years since the birth of their nation from Trucial States, so the country is gearing up into celebratory mode. From my perspective it's so much like our Christmas season. The founding father of the UAE was Sheik Mohammad Zayed the second, the Sheik of our Emirate, Abu Dhabi Emirate. Sadly on November 2 2004 the Sheik passed away. So this week at school we have had assembly items seeped in patronism. Lots of flags, children doing items dressed in UAE colours and lots of celebrating and recognising the life of the sheik and what he achieved.
Also a pic of the girls in the school uniform with their shailas, the traditional head dress flag waving during assembly items.

Look at all that gold! How often do you see them wearing pieces like that? Is it only for special occasions and with traditional dress? I wonder how heavy it is or whether it is ultra thin and light. Reminds me of the all the stuff we saw on display in the Dubai Gold Souk.
