To have access to the senior classes at the boys school, my ICT teacher would like me to wear an abya. So be it. Abyas come in different quality fabrics, hence different pricing. However the main problem is actually making a choice. Emirati women love bling and some of the abyas are so over the top. There are literally thousands to choose from, each one different from the first. Price wise over the last week I have seen a beautiful one with a fish tail in dusty pink at 1500 AED through to plain black one in the local supermarket for 65 AED. Over the weekend I finally made my choice. My one is plain with a red lace insert around the neck and down the front with "jewels" stitched into the lace, and red lace cuffs. Sheryl and I have had pockets added to our ones for expediency. Another good aspect is that the abya cuts down on the "what shall I wear today?" Here we are celebrating our right of passage, with an Oyster Bay Chard, as you do.

Hmmm, the lengths one must go to.
How do you feel about having to do this? Any rebellious streak coming to the fore? Does this irk you at all or are you accepting of it because there is no other way. At least you can put some of 'you' into it by choosing other than a plain black one to wear. Almost anonymity.....
