Things look ominous

Last Wednesday there was suddenly activity and destruction of the little cafe on my street, next door to the large building construction. Over two days the cafe was demolished. Yesterday very early the jack hammers were used to demolish the  floor and the walls. Trucks are not allowed into the city before 9 pm, so a digger was then transported onto the site last night and proceeded to revolve the rubble. This morning the digger is busy excavating large blocks of concrete from the foundations which not doubt will be removed tonight.

Yesterday I walked along the street and things look very ominous from the kerbside. I will try and include some photos. The small shop next door to the cafe has been emptied and remains a skeleton. The concrete wall between the remains of the cafe and the construction has gone and a very flimsy wooden thing is there in its place. The men with jack hammers are now attacking the wall of the next door skeleton shop. From the roadside view one would suspect that the new activity is linked to the construction. Perhaps the  cafe would become a motorbike park for new multifloor building in front of my apartment, which incidentally is now 7 floors.

Ironically one half of a new building across the road has been gutted, the coloured netting draping the building, and activity inside that. Land is so expensive in Ho Chi Minh, that small ground level buildings are uneconomic. I live on the corner of Hai BA Trung which is an arterial street into the centre of the city. As with any city, growth slowly spreads along the arterial routes away from the centre of the city. There has been a lot of new buildings and growth around my area, so one can speculate as to what may be happening below my balcony. Whatever, the noise and activity do not make for a peaceful existence. Maybe it really is time for me to leave.

My regret is that I never had a meal in that cafe and now it is gone!Doesn't seem wide enough for a bike park? Perhaps a mini basketball court? Or a swimming pool?
