On Monday we got up bright and early, hired a driver and drove 40 mins to the outskirts of Yoga to visit is renown Buddist Temple, built in the 9th century. Tradition suggests that you walk clockwise 3 times around the base, as you make your way up to the top. The carvings on the stone work told various stories, and was very intricate. Eventually we got to the 7th floor and were in "Nevada" with all the stupors. Inside each stupor was a Buddha which we put our hands inside to touch the feet. The views from the top were spectacular looking over a very well manicured park, reminding me so much of Sigiriya Rock in Sri Lanka.
There were photos at the top of the volunteers cleaning the ash off the carvings after the huge volcanic eruption in about 2004.
From Borobudur our driver was supposed to take us across town to the Hindhu Temple. He sadly took a short cut and we finished up 32 kms out of Yoga in the countryside, on a truck road. Totally lost. After almost 2 hrs in what was to be a 40 minute drive we arrive at the Hindhu Temple. It's now after 1 pm the car park is loaded with buses and it's stifling hot. Sadly no thank you. We then headed for McDonalds and lunch, and surprise surprise the driver gets lost again coming into the city. After a quick burger we called it a day, only to have another tiki tour around the city.
