Happy Easter everyone. Part of this living, and working overseas is to experience things that are different, and celebrating Good Friday this year fell exactly into that box. Although we are a British school, we are working through Easter. We did have "Easter" lunch in the canteen / dining hall, with the canteen staff all wearing rabbit head bands, and our meal was accompanied with a carrot muffin. No eggs and no chocolate!
After school on Good Friday a small group of us wandered down to a new restaurant that had opened in An Phu to have a Friday drink. An Phu is a large expat area, and where most of our children reside. The restaurant, which is across the road from a big expat compound, had a board up outside advertising hot cross buns. So why not? The largest dilemma came, not from which drink or cocktail I should choose, but rather how many hot cross buns should I order? Difficult you think? Only in Vietnam do you have to order hotcross buns in pairs! Until Deribhle arrived the waitress was perplexed, 7 people and we could have either 6 or 8 hotcross buns. As perplexing as that problem may have been, things lifted to a new level. The price of aforementioned buns is 50,000 VND a bun. Work that one out. Sometimes logic doesn't seem to enter into the realm of possibility.
Having chosen a Saigon Mule, (vodka, gingerbeer and lime), I thoroughly enjoyed my hotcross bun, the evening, the company, and then purchased 6 more buns to take home. Happy Easter everyone.
