We went on the 2 and a half hour journey from Mostar to
Sarajevo last evening. About 100+ backpackers and us. Very
cheap trip on a very basic train. Only ventilation on a very
hot day was through two small open windows. On the platform
were 6 loud German lads. I said that we will make sure we
get a different carriage from theirs. Huh!
The train arrives and everyone scrambles to get on and
grab a seat. Jocelyn didn't listen and grabbed a forward
facing seat - across the aisle from 6 loud German lads! Who
stayed loud. This train had no lights at all. None. So we
passed through 100+ tunnels (I counted up to 100) in full
darkness. The German lads played touch. Grabbing each other's crotch
to riotous laughter in each tunnel. Great. After a while
some people used cell phones and I-pads to shine light dimly
but as the sun set it became a dark progress. (The lads
tired of their games) The view from the train was really
magnificent as we travelled over numerous viaducts high over the water
or between valleys, through forests. We didn't mind the basic nature of the
train. Getting a tram in the dark in Sarajevo was another
story. Great fun but tiring.

Sounds like a fun trip! Love the rugged scenery - a little reminiscent of Central Otago.
Just as well those crotch-grabbing backpackers were not facing you two!
