Krka is completely different to Plitvice Lakes however equally as nice in a different way. The park is very fragmented and requires considerable driving between gates. This park doesn't have a transport system shifting the multitudes around like they do in Plitvice. We drove to gate 2 at the top of the park and walked around the small lakes and cascades ( rapids) after viewing an old mill complex. The view from up high looking over the lakes was again picturesque. The green bush and the turquoise water. The temperatures soared, so we decided to sit it out in the shade beside a small lake before venturing mid afternoon down to gate 1.
Gate 1 is the most popular entrance and by mid afternoon the crowds had thinned considerably. All the walkways leading off from gate 1 are on board walks in order to protect the flora and fauna. Towards the end has a series of cascading rapids to drive the old turbines. Swimming is permitted at the bottom of these rapids, and as the temperatures had reached the 40 mark, I took advantage of the opportunity, as you do.
And when the day gets too much for you, stretch out and have a wee snooze!
