It's not all sunshine and roses

Today Saturday we awoke to an overcast but warm day. The pansion (accommodation where we are staying) owner is talking and hoping for rain. He keeps pointing to the  greyish cloud cover. The far off rock ranges on the mainland are clearly visible. We decided to walk into town and pick up our bus tickets for Sarajevo. The sun was beginning to break through the cloud cover. Once in town we walked over the brow of the hill through the narrow streets to the west side of the township where I had spent the day swimming yesterday. Once over the brow, the westerly wind was quite fierce. The water on that side of the island was covered in whitecaps. The small pleasure craft moored against the road were buffeting in the wind and riding out the waves on their bow moorings. All stern lines had been let go from the shore. Children  and adults alike were enjoying standing on the foreshore being dampened by sea spray.

On the sheltered side of the township the sea was calm and people were out enjoying the water. After lunch an inter island ferry arrived from the direction of Split and offloaded / on loaded many passengers and cars before continuing towards Dubrovnik. A very interesting feature of this ferry was the stern off loading ramp. Rather than the ramp being at the stern like the NZ ferry the ramp was close to the stern but on the starboard side. This meant the ferry could berth along  side and  disembark the cars,  rather than back into a berth as happens in NZ.

On the walk back to our pansion we could hear distant rumbling and see the cumulonimbus clouds forming behind the rocky hills on the mainland. Suffice to say it is now 4:30 pm, the thunder is rolling around over head and a little rain is falling. The owner's hopes have been answered. This is the first time for a very long time rain has fallen. The dry parched land demonstrates the endless hot sunny days they have experienced in Korcula, on the Dalmation Coast, in Croatia. My tan demonstrates the hot sunny days with ozone cover we have experienced in Korcula, on the Dalmatian Coast and in Croatia. Long may it last.
