International craft extravaganza

Yesterday as part of our International Week we had a craft extravaganza in the foyer. All the specialist teachers  provided activities for the children to participate in. Natasha the music specialist is from Wales and we have become friends over time. When we began researching we discovered many similarities between her country and mine. Rugby of course and with the looming game against Wales next weekend. Natasha wore her rugby top and me well my silver fern t shirt.

Having an agriculturally based economy was another similarity follwed by the numbers of sheep. We also discovered the similarities in designs. While we have Maori koru patterns, and the Welsh have Celtic designs, when you examine them closely they are so so similar.

Natasha and I encouraged the junior children to cut out a sheep template and then decorate it with wool. The senior students made  book marks with designs up the stick  with a sheep at the top.

We had a great time working with the students doing something outside our own specialist field. We did notice how well the children in EYF could cut out. They were superb cutting around the sheep with  scissors, even though the scissors were much larger than the ones they usually.
