Another week passes and there are more changes happening around us. The road outside our apartment is finished. Remember the pic above? Remember the sand that formed a sandy track / road to my aparttment?
We now have a cobbled road from 4th street up our lane to all the apartments, and the cobbles extend right to the under cover cars parks, under the aprtment over hang. It's magnificent to drive on and walk on and NO sand creeping inside on your shoes and feet.
The apartment across the road is progressing rapidly as they complete the block work on the outside and now begin work on the interior. Directly opposite me is a spare section which also looks like it may soon become another apartment block. Rumours based around the lack of accommodation continue to swirl in the shifting sand. UAE have opened a new branch of their university here in Al Ain as have Abu Dhabi University. Villas that were once rented at 140,000 AED a year are now rumoured to be at 270,000. Real estate seems like a good option again as we notice a continuation of the building process both here and in Dubai.

I wonder if the cobble stones are used because they aid in drainage when it rains.... or is it easier to fix if subsidence or breakages occur? Wouldn't have to reseal a patch, just put in another cobble stone or two and it would look as good as new! You've got a pretty flash driveway there Jocelyn.
Looking good. Fancy having a real road outside your door.
Makes an interesting surface too and like Marg says should be easy to repair. At least the Tar won't run in the heat. And the apartment block is well on the way. In Blenheim they are building a large multi storied carpark opposite Blenheim School but of course with less manpower it will take a lot longer yet. Its been about 6 months already.
This really is a very attractive neighbourhood in which to live. Nice architecture, lovely cobblestones and greenery down the street. Neat and tidy.
