Year 1 and meta-cognitive skills.

Today Year 1 began exploring and using the tools in the application Kid Pix. the students are using Kid Pix to create self portraits. I took this photo to show the concentration of the students while drawing their pictures. Everyone had their faces glued to the screen, focusing on the picture they were constructing. On reflection I began to think about the brain and innate metacognitive actions. Year one drawing was a great example. The students knew instinctively to watch the screen, not to watch their hand on the mouse drawing. Instinctively they were moving the mouse, the mouse action was being replicated on the screen, and the students eyes were focused on the screen, the end result, not the mouse as the tool to get to the end product. Then on further reflection I began to think about the digital divide. These wee sweethearts are digital natives, do they know because they are wired that way, that they don't have to watch the mouse. Or it just my digital immigrant thinking?
