Progress at 217 Nguyen Van Thu Street

There has been a lot of activity, at 217 Nguyen Van Thu Street in the last 10 days, both through the night and during the day. Night activity seems to be the loading of soil onto the trucks often between 12:00 mid night and 3:30am. The day activity involves excavating more of the foundations and having the soil ready to be loaded onto the trucks. Or laying and welding the huge beams across the section. The third day activity involves the men bricking between the concrete piles around the edge of the premises.

The site had been excavated to a depth of just over 4 - 6 feet below the surface. Now the latest excavations seem to be a further 12-15 below that. The basement of this building is really getting down into the core of the earth. Image the trucks loads of soil that have been removed. As a passing thought I wonder what the effect of the excavation is  having on my apartment block.  One of the residents here suggested the fevered activity may well be to do with the approaching wet season. Currently we are getting rain most days, however when the wet season really gets underway there is likely to be a deluge of rain water, and this huge cavity may well fill to once again become a quagmire.

I wonder how far down they will go? It certainly is an intriguing way of building, particularly the bricks etc sealing the excavated sides.

It seems to be a "different" way to build a multi storied building - unless they are going to fill the cavity with concrete??? Please place your bets. Fill or not fill?
