An up and coming student

Last week my TX campus enrolled 2 Korean  twin boys into Year 1. These children don’t speak any English and this is a British International School, teaching a British Curriculum in English. We suspect as the owner of the school is expanding the school and building a new campus in Hanoi, the enrollment policy may be influenced by bums on seats and the illusive dollar. These 2 poor lads must truly be shell shocked. Not only are they dropped into an English speaking environment, Mum suddenly changes their names from their Korean name to Daniel and Justin. Talk about lose of identity.

Daniel has been into my class 3 times now and his English is really coming along. From zero to anything makes you practically fluent. Last week I introduced Daniel to Kid Pix and he drew the outline of a building in his home town. Although with the help of one of the older Korean students we couldn’t identify the building. In fact I’m sure Daniel wasn’t too sure, but he cast his eyes around to see what others were drawing…… Bright boy. Today I showed him how to use the fill bucket. The roof and door were the easy bits, however he pain-stakingly managed to fill in the windows. He used the oh no redo button a few times and got there in the end. Infact his work is a lot better than some that have been in the class all year!. He’s one smart boy, and with a bit more language… wow.
