Goodbye Enas

Enas my primary ICT teacher has been transferred to Al Talia, a school on the other side of Al Ain, on the Al Ain Abu Dhabi highway. In this country Emirati teachers have precedence over non national, eg Expat teachers. Emirati teacher chose where they want to teach, non nationals get sent. The teacher at Al Talia left and no one wants to transfer to that school, its 40 minutes drive out of town. The ADEC zone, then send a non national teacher there. It doesn't matter that the teacher they send was doing a good job in another school, or the school that they come from is then with out a teacher. Yesterday Enas left to take up a new position, having been given 3 days notice that the papers would come for her transfer. She is one of 4 non national ICT teachers in the Abu Dhabi Emirate, so no wonder she got sent.
There are ramifications for my school now are:
I have a cover (relieving teacher) 2 days a week until a full time teacher can be found, which may take some time. Who wants to drive 45 minutes out into the desert to teach?
The whole school time table has to be changed, again, so grade 1-5 can go to ICT classes on Sunday and Tuesday.
Salama has to pick up extra classes in Grade 6 and 7.
Enas had sole responsibility of entering marks and grades into the ESIS system, so there is no sustainability
When a government is spending zillions on a reform project and introducing a new curriculum, upskilling staff etc one wonders why such decisions have been made.
Enas always wanted to teach in a government school, as they get paid heaps more than a private school. She got sent to us in her first government posting, about this time last year, when my other Emirati primary teacher chose to go and teach at Al Faqua, her township, about 20 k away.
Today Salama and I feel sad over the loss of a colleague, a good teacher and part of our team.
