Port Saeed Sharjah

I've always associated Sharjah with the cricket tournament. Sharjah is one of the 7 Emirates. Today we drove on from Dubai to Sharjah just for a look. I'd stayed in Sharjah during Ramadan and enjoyed lazing and swimming on a private beach. In search of a public beach we drove passed the port which was an eye opener. The water way was like a small canal. On the opposite bank were all the dhows ready to sail across the gulf to Iran. Distance wise Iran is about 2 hours by plane, so not a huge distance in a boat. On our side of the water were all boats of varying degrees pulled up along side the road. The trucks just rattled along and either dropped off or picked up their cargo. I was staggered to see the number of vessels loading tyres, either in individual plastic wrapping or minus the wrapping. No containers used here. A little further down they were unloading the live cargo of cows and goats. The animals had a strop underneath them and were winched down individually into the awaiting truck, about 6 per truck. No ultra modern processes here. However what we saw appeared to be efficient per truck load and didn't require a huge labour force. As one truck was filling the next one was backing down awaiting its load
