Aoi explains her learning

Kris the Year 5 teacher who has her classroom across the corridor from my ICT room has been cultivating fungi and other delectable samples with her students. They have the agar samples in petrie dishes on top of the lockers in the corridor. This morning I was having a look at the growth of the respective samples when Aoi sauntered passed and stopped to chat about her sample, taken from the toilet. Aoi is a very quiet student, works well but doesn’t really communicate however today oh how animated she was about her learning. She explained how she desperately wanted to collect a sample from the toilet, how she had volunteered, and how her agar sample has been growing. Learning is all about engagement and desire. Today Aoi was just that, engaged, motivated, self assured and communicative.
