Day 1 cycle Montocorto

We are ensconced in a very small typical Spanish village, Montocorto in Andulusia. Today was the first "leisure" ride out into the surrounding countryside. 26 km out around a beautiful turquoise lake with ever changing colours and then a hill climb up to another village perched at the foot of an old Moorish Castle. Coffee on arrival at the village was most welcome. We're cycling with Jeff and Tracey an English couple from New Castle and Jess(male) our guide also from the UK, working out here. They are both lovely people, Jeff a more experienced rider well above leisure standards.
The village very much like our village of Monocorto. Tiny narrow streets all cobbled, some only 2.5 m wide,created in the donkey and cart days. The houses all whitewashed with orange tiled roofs and as neat as.
Food is really cheap here in rural Spain.
Coke, coffee, beer, toasty things with olive oil and tomato paste,filled small bread roll tapas 1 Euro.
3 x coffee 2 x coke and 3 x toasty things 8 Euro.
We began riding at 8:00 am which is just over an hour after sun rise and rather pleasant. Coming home in the mid day sun, hot, as the temps are reported to rise to 37 later in the week, and longer than the 26 kgoing out due to a wrong turn. Oops.
Today was just fabulous despite the tiredness that is creeping through my body. I'm sure a cold beer will help with the rejuvenation process. To be out in the country side riding beside fields of sunflowers, olive groves and local houses all in a National Park with such interesting surroundings seeped in history can't get much better than this.
