| Sagrada Familla |
Google the
name Antoni Gaudi. This man was regarded as a genius and is linked with Barcelona,
architecture and the famous church Sagrada Familia ( of which my pictures do absolutely no justice). I´d heard a little about
Gaudi, his famous church and the young NZ architect who is working to complete
said famous church. So it was on my list of must visits while here in Barcleona.
Various
tourist sites, churches etc are now charging 10 E per person to enter, 16 E if it is the Sagrada Familla which
really sucks up the money, so this weekend Ian and I have had a weekend of
walking and enjoying the sites around the city that are free. We began down at
the port walking up Les Rambla, to Palau
Guell a house designed for Guell by his
friend Gaudi. Entry fee 10 E. Across the road was a shop selling Gaudi Souvenirs
which included a book on Gaudi architecture 10 E. So now we / I have walked to the sites, admired the
outside, which is free and then opened
the book I purchased and admired the pictures and the commentary of the inside of
the building, also free.

incentive.

This
morning we ambled around admiring and enjoying the work of Gaudi who designed
the Parc for the Guell family who later donated the buildings and the land to
the city. Entry is an art nouveau extravaganza, which includes 2 Gingerbread
houses with Gaudi´s trade mark, strange /
different chimney pots. These ones were hallucinogenic red and white mushrooms.
A huge lizard guards the staircase and the 12 columns holding up the upper roof are at an
angle its not my photography. The roof top includes wavey seating. Gaudi didn´t
go for straight lines and his other trade mark are abstract tiling some deliberately broken and then put together
like a mosaic. Wow have I been educated in things art and things architecture.

Have read about Gaudi's architecture - thanks for the photos. It all looks such fun, very coulourful and interesting. I am a little envious - would love to see it.
