During the evening I reflected on what had happened today and wrote a blurb for my managers. I know I covered lots in the previous post, however on reflection yesterday was a pretty special small step, but a large stride for me.
Today Ibriham and Ali invited me to come with them into the Emirati staffroom at school to talk and do some PD. We normally meet in the classroom, or outside our office. The staffroom is like the inner sanctum, as it is a dedicated room for only the Emirati teachers and not all our company staff have been invited in there. The Emirati teachers who were also present were welcoming. No hand shaking! First step.
After time Ibriham then invited me to take lunch with them and the group as a whole. The Emirati teachers were gathering from around the school to have a meal together as a conclusion to the school community celebrations. This invitation was huge as you would appreciate.
At the end of the meal Ibriham then told me he and Ali had talked and both feel very comfortable working with me. They believe they can learn lots with me and together we can do lots for the students through the activities we have been doing this term and the things we were planning.
In short, today I got invited to lunch by my two male Emirati teachers and they feel we can work together as a team and provide interesting ways of learning for the students.
How good is that?
Some days won’t always be this good, but today was definitely about acceptance, relationships and partnerships, and it can't come better than that.

Jocelyn, you will be thrilled by these overtures. You have certainly made an impression on them They are obviously appreciating what you have done for them and excited about what you have to offer them in the future. What an excellent breakthrough.
