There's a war raging down here between Cadbury Chocolate and Whittakers Chocolate. Now for chocolate lovers like myself this is serious stuff. About 2 months ago Cadbury repackaged, and like everyone else offered smaller blocks but better quality for the same money. Blocks now come in 200 gms not 250gms. Now in my opinion the quality of
Dream the white chocolate became gritty and oily, due to uncreased amounts of Palm oil. One was not encouraged by this new taste to eat large quantities of the stuff in one sitting. In fact as a connoisseur Cadbury of course expected their rivals to follow suit but on this occasion not so. Infact Whittakers have taken out TV advertising pointing out the differences, eg bigger blocks, original taste, fullsome ingredients and the coup... Whittakers chocolate is made in NZ.
Other chocolate lover around the country have voted with their feet. I sauntered up to my local supermarket to find the shelves bare, of Whitakers and during the week I was forced to buy in bulk, incase I should be caught out again!
A friend sent me a pic they had seen somewhere which would actually describe the situation in my supermarket. It's amazing what it takes to polarise the population.
The power of the media is really obvious as it's taken a simple television advertisement to hype up consumerism. My next posting will be about the power of IT to hype up consumerism.
