Hamish's Graduation

On Tuesday Hamish had his 13 seconds across stage receiving Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. 15 minutes before that Rachel walked across attaining Bachelor of Arts in History. So we are celebrated the journey, not only that across the stage, but the learning journey.
Rod Carr the Chancellor gave a very interesting address which dovetailed into the synergy. He questioned what exactly did the degree that was conferred mean. In Hamish's case it was political science. Subject specialty knowledge means very little, however underpinning any degree is the ability to read and summarise documents, synthesise and analysise documents, make sense of it all and argue a case. That Carr felt, is what really was learnt. This reminds me of the Alvin Tofler quote "The illiterate of the 21st century will not be those who cannot read and write, but those who cannot learn, unlearn, and relearn."
As a proud mother I savor and celebrate the occasion, and reflect on learning journeys and journeys to learn. Congratulations Hamish and Rachel. :-)
