The government have mandated that those children in an international school who identify as Vietnamese have to undertake so many extra hours of Vietnamese classes either after or before school, in school. While our school has a large percentage of Vietnamese children many identify and hold passports to other countries esp USA, UK and Australia. This makes life easier especially where travel is concerned.
On Thursday afternoon Year 1 students take part in Vietnamese language lessons from 2:40 to 4 pm in my room. These little sweethearts are 5 going on 6. This Thursday Thanh their teacher was administering some form of testing one on one. The others kept themselves busy colouring in etc, except for Mai Phong who was reading aloud to herself. Wow I had to stop and listen. Her reading was incredible for a child that age, Even more incredible that English is her 2nd language. You just have to love all the strategies she put into place as she read away happily on her own.
